The perfect speed

I’m training for the Seagull Century these days—a 100-mile bike ride that takes place each year on the 2nd weekend in October.  The ride stretches from Salisbury University and to Assateague and back.  Training means my regular 30-mile rides once a week and daily rides of 10-20 miles around Lake Montebello.  I love the steady rhythm of pedaling, matching gear to incline and wind, music in my earphone—there’s a point where I just feel the momentum forward, the meshing of bike and body and road.

It’s the perfect speed at which to move through the world.
